The Inclusive Ministries Team strives to enrich the church experience of all people – through our sharing, education and action. Our goal is to remove all barriers to participation – so that everyone of every sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, ethnicity and socio-economic status might be able to participate fully in the life of the church. We also strive to equip all those who enter our doors the best possible opportunity for genuine hospitality – in order to be a more welcoming Christian community.
The Rose City Park Church is an Affiliate of The National Reconciling Ministries Network or RMN (rmnetwork.org/) and also a member of the Oregon-Idaho Reconciling United Methodist Congregations or RUMS (www.OIRUMs.org/). As a RUMS member congregation, we welcome people of all sexual orientations, we participate in regular meetings and conferences and we work to educate church members about the needs and issues of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
As a part of our “Radical Hospitality” – we welcome people who experience physical, sensory and psychiatric impairments. Our role is to provide disability sensitivity classes to make sure that these brothers and sisters in Christ are included on committees and in all of the church life of our congregation. We have created an access matrix that is helping us in removing environmental barriers within our church – so that our building is more user friendly for people with physical and sensory disabilities. Some of the examples of our accomplishments include: steps that have been taken to include the installation of an automatic door button and elevator at the church office entrance; the provision of a large print and e-mail versions of Sunday church bulletins (upon request) and to make available our bi-monthly newsletter “The Open Doors” available on our web site to be read by folks who are blind and who use screen readers.
Our meetings are open to the public and take place on a regular basis. If interested call the church office for more information about the time and location (503-281-1229).
