June 22, 2008

  • Please check out the Art Camp bulletin board in the Narthex. Our theme this year is "Galactic Faith: Faith As Big As The Universe". You can pick up a registration form and take a supply card to help us stay in our budget.
  • Come and enjoy worship in God's glorious outdoors! On July 20th at 10:00 am worship service will be held in the parking lot across the street from the church (chairs will be provided). "The Lord God Made Them All" is this year's theme for the outdoor celebration incorporating a time for a special blessing: a blessing of the animals. You may even bring your pet - on a leash or in a carrier/cage and Pastor Tom Tate will offer a blessing on these special creations of God. With the Celebration Singers (choir), Praise Band, and lots of music, we will make that joyful noise to the neighborhood. There will be a hamburger/hotdog barbeque provided by the congregation.
  • Life Line Screening will be at RCP on Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Life Line Screening provides fast, painless, noninvasive and inexpensive tests for stroke screening, Carotid Artery, Arterial Fibrillation screening, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm screening and Peripheral Arterial Disease screening.   • Bible Study for adults is on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am. This is a Bible Study using the very "user friendly" Serendipity series. The study will be led by Rev. Tom Tate and open to everyone.

  • Host families needed! In June the Charles Wesley Singers, a group of middle school and high school youth, from Damascus United Methodist Church in Damascus, Maryland, will be on tour for their 20th year from June 17 - June 30, 2008. Their Portland performance will be on Wednesday, 6/17, at 7:00 pm at the First Congregational Church, UCC located at 1126 SW Park Ave., Portland. The group is in need of host families (home stay families) in Portland, on Tuesday, 6/17 and Wednesday, 6/18. Host families are asked to provide breakfast on Wednesday & Thursday morning and host 2 or more young people per home. Also, host families are encouraged to attend the concert and pick kids up after the concert. Please see the complete itinerary location on the bulletin boards in the church hallways or the Apostolate newsletter coming out 5/29.   • Financial statements for the first 4 months may be picked up today in the Narthex. When the church computer crashed, Jae Bea had to completely redo the statements and that has required an extra month. So be aware that this statement is for all first 4 months ending April 30, 2008. Next statements will come out in September.
  • We are in need of interviewing for money counters on Monday mornings. This job requires an average of 2 to 3 hours. Please contact J'Anna Sharrard at 503-255-6796 or the church office.
  • You may pick up the Upper Room for July/August in the Narthex today.

  • Today's anthem is one of the love songs from this afternoon's concert "Love Is In The Air!" The musicians of the church look forward to seeing you today at 3:30 pm in the Sanctuary. A free will offering will be received at intermission.
  • Would you like to be an Acolyte on Sunday mornings at 11:00 am? There will be an Acolyte training today, June 8th, at 10:00 am in room 202. All students who will be entering the 3rd grade in the fall through high school are invited to attend.
  • Bible Study for adults starts today, June 8th. Each Sunday morning at 10:00 am during the summer, you are invited to a Bible Study using the very "user friendly" Serendipity series. The study will be led by Rev. Tom Tate and open to everyone.
  • The Musicians of Rose City Park United Methodist Church present "Love is in the Air!" A concert of love songs is today, Sunday, June 8th at 3:30 pm. The concert is a benefit for the church music program. A free will offering will be received at intermission. Childcare is provided. The church is handicapped accessible and located on bus line #12 and #71.

  • Ed Edmo, a Native American consultant and story teller, will lead a group to Horse Thief Lake State Park in Washington to view "She Who Watches" a petroglyph which appears to guard the Columbia River. This ancient site is protected and may only be seen by guided tour. Ed is a respected leader of the Northwest Indian Tribes and has been given special permission to conduct these tours. The group will meet in the church parking lot on this Thursday, June 12th , at 9:30 am with transportation provided by the church's van. A $20 fee will be charged plus their lunch at Cousin's Restaurant in The Dallas. The group will return to the church by 5:00. Please call the church office at 503-281-1229 if you with to participate. Ed recently shared some Northwest Tribal legends and stories between the two services. To learn more about the significance of "She Who Watches" and gain more knowledge about Native American culture from this important tribal leader will be a very special treat.

  • Stimulus checks are still coming out. Explosion Sunday began May 18th and will continue for the next three weeks so there is still time to contribute.
  • Lunch and Movie Day has been suspended through the summer. It will resume in September.
