- We will be celebrating Pentecost Sunday this year on May 11th. Pentecost commemorates the descending of the Holy Spirit on the early Christian disciples and the starting of the early church as told in Acts 2. Let us remember the great gift this is to us every day of our lives! It is traditional to wear red on that Sunday to show our solidarity in remembrance.
- "Peace with Justice Sunday" is one of the six church wide Special Sundays of The United Methodist Church. Peace with Justice Sunday enables The United Methodist Church to have a voice in advocating for peace and justice through a broad spectrum of global programs. Watch for the special offering envelopes on Sunday, May 18th.
- Rose City Park UMC is participating in the "Bread for the World Offering of Letters". We are asking congress to allot another $5 billion annually to poverty-focused development programs abroad, and to pass the Global Poverty Act. Please stop by the Mission Outreach table in the Narthex for complete details.
- The next Daybreak Shelter opportunity to host homeless families and single women will be May 18th - May 25th, 2008. There will be opportunities to help with dinner preparation and hosting, van driving, laundry, overnight hosting; along with set-up and take-down on each Sunday of the week. Sign-up sheets will be in the Narthex two weeks prior to the hosting date. There has been a full house for most of our earlier hosting weeks. So, there is a huge need in our community for local appropriate shelters. This is our small chance to provide some comfort and a homelike environment for these individuals. If you have any questions, please contact Betty Dodd, Vickie Reiner or Ann Gishwiller. Thank you in advance for your help.
